Mad Science Software is an app studio and software consultancy for people interesting enough to have difficult problems. Our strengths are serious technical expertise and unapologetic curiosity.
We build software we genuinely want to spend time on. That usually means technically difficult work, oddly shaped constraints, and the occasional slightly hair-brained side project. We've learned that having the right team behind projects like this can be the difference between something that moves forward smoothly and the most stressful time of your life.
We like making things that matter: work that has real impact, ideas that lean into the playful or unexpected, and partnerships built on deep trust. We believe that tackling the hardest engineering challenges should feel like an adventure, not a crisis.

Freya Youngquist
Co-founder · Design & protocol
Freya's career has been centered on bringing clarity to high-stakes projects, having spent years managing international engagements for clients with demanding timelines, exacting standards, and little room for error.
She holds a Master's degree from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies, defended her thesis in Mandarin, speaks four languages, and has lived in eight countries, including a stint in China during the onset of the 2020 pandemic. Large-scale projects with global aspirations are her favorite.
At Mad Science she designs the products and runs the business side: scope, timelines, and the parts that keep an experiment controlled.
James Youngquist
Co-founder · Engineering
James got his start in the tech industry doing freelancing and making custom electronics and code for interactive art installations. He got a taste for the startup life while soldering things together in the back of a coffee shop with his friends, and then spent the majority of his career working for Y Combinator-backed startups in industries like medtech and biomanufacturing.
Now, years later, it's time to return to the back of the coffee shop, metaphorically speaking.
